Shelbyville Lake is getting much-needed fish habitat thanks to a concerted effort by groups of local anglers, staff from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. “Georgia Cubes” are a combination of pvc pipe and corrugated drain pipe that are proven fish attractors. The design of the traditional George Cubes was modified to lift the structure off of the bottom and reduce the likelihood of the structures becoming silted in. Native aquatic vegetation is also being reintroduced to Shelbyville as part of a long-term comprehensive fish habitat restoration effort. The Reservoir Fisheries Habitat Partnership and Friends of Reservoirs will be providing additional funding in 2018 to continue the great work being done on Shelbyville.
