Please describe the project objective(s).

HorseThief Reservoir is the newest Reservoir and park in the state of Kansas. The park opened for fishing in 2010 and camping in late 2011. Continuing to add new habitat will help the reservoir build a great fishery for Western Kansas. With continued habitat development HorseThief Reservoir will continue to improve the recreational satisfaction of sportsman across Western Kansas, Panhandle of Oklahoma and even eastern Colorado.

Please describe the project methods. Will the product be used in conjunction with existing habitat restoration efforts on the reservoir? Will the product supplement natural brush, rock, or other materials being added to the reservoir?

Being a new reservoir, continued habitat development is needed to continue building a great fishery. KDWPT biologist Lowell Aberson as well as HorseThief Reservoir has installed many tons of riprap, submerged trees as well as manmade habitat structures. The Mossback structure will be added to enhance the ongoing habitat efforts.

Will state fish and wildlife agency staff be directly involved in the project? How so (planning, site selection, participation in installation)? Is there an associated lake or habitat management plan that states the need for structural habitat enhancement?

Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks will be directly involved with site location and will be involved with installation.

List the species that the project is expected to benefit:

Large Mouth Bass, Crappie, Bait fish, Walleye and Catfish

How do you plan to conduct outreach and advertise the project? (Examples: on-site signage, press releases, websites, message boards)

Rely heavily on Social media for advertising to recreators, as well as on site signage and HorseThief website.
