Please describe the project objective(s).

The objective of this project is to create additional aquatic habitat at Tioga Lake through artificial habitat structures. We will specifically use this funding to create additional Porcupine Crib structures to the planned Cooperative habitat improvement project. The structures will also allow us to have more habitat diversity for fish at the proposed placement site. These habitat structures will improve recruitment, species richness, and the efficiency of aquatic fish populations while providing improved fishing opportunities.

Please describe the project methods. Will the product be used in conjunction with existing habitat restoration efforts on the reservoir? Will the product supplement natural brush, rock, or other materials being added to the reservoir?

This project will add additional structures to a previously planned improvement project. Artificial habitat improvement structures will be constructed on land and then will be placed by 2 specialized habitat boats. These structures will mimic the natural habitat at the lake that has been degraded over the past decade. They will be constructed out of rough-cut hemlock, nails, and concrete block. Technical assistance and placement will be completed by the PA Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC). The Tioga County Bass Anglers is responsible for gathering volunteers and for picking up project materials. US. Army Corp of Engineers (USACOE) provide staff, an operator, and a machine for the project. The structures will be constructed by local volunteers, USACOE staff and PFBC staff. Similar projects have been completed across the state of Pennsylvania through the PFBC Cooperative Habitat Improvement Program (CHIP).

Will state fish and wildlife agency staff be directly involved in the project? How so (planning, site selection, participation in installation)? Is there an associated lake or habitat management plan that states the need for structural habitat enhancement?

The project is a cooperative project between all partners. All project partners discuss site locations and are
involved with the planning of the project.

List the species that the project is expected to benefit:

Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Crappie, Walleye, Bluegill, Yellow Perch, Chain Pickerel

How do you plan to conduct outreach and advertise the project? (Examples: on-site signage, press releases, websites, message boards)

USACE will have a press release on Facebook. Tioga County Bass Anglers will release information through social media, website, message board at local sporting goods store, and newspaper announcements.
